I’ve been trying to remember to spice up the blog a lil’ bit with something other than endless paragraphs of text. Information is great, but visuals are always the cherry on top of the sundae. (I don’t know about you, but I’ve skimmed through pages and pages of size 10 font text books in my life and always want to scratch my eyes out. Though hopefully this site is a bit more interesting than  school work!)

I’m all about the right vibes and trying to place myself in environments that are aesthetically pleasing/intriguing. Search and Destroy, a “vintage punk-rock apparel and accessory” store in the East Village, fits the bill.

I took this picture about a year ago. My one roommate decided she wanted to get a piercing so we went in search of a reliable tattoo parlor who could do the service. We ended up at the infamous St. Mark’s Place. It was pretty late at night, no retail shops were open, but Search and Destroy, by far, had the most eye-catching window display. We didn’t even know at the time what sort of establishment it was. As you can see, there isn’t much of an indicator of merchandise from the outside other than “this is some weird shit, you should come on in.”

Oddly enough, I’m not sure why I haven’t yet. It’s an easy subway ride to the East Village, but I guess when I have the time and money to splurge a lil’ I tend to keep it super local. I’ve been thinking though, with the amount of work I’m putting into this summer, I deserve to treat myself a bit. (Ever since college I’ve become a penny pincher. If it’s not necessary, I feel guilty buying it.) And my wardrobe really needs to be the first thing that gets updated. Clothes used to excite me a lot, and I miss owning that aspect of individualism and creativity. In fact, I bought a dress and a shirt yesterday after my shift because of a great sales find. It was so relaxing being able to take my time and express myself. And being able to make choices using my own funds? The independence is exhilarating. Of course I found myself picking up another dress today during my lunch hour!

I’m hoping to make it to Search and Destroy after my next pay check goes in.

Keeping it ~spooky~, ya know?

  1. It’s good to treat yourself to somn new and different somx, somn that you normally wouldn’t do. I got a tattoo almost 20 yrs ago and I have never regretted it. I would like 1 or 2 more, I don’t like a lot of tattoos but a couple would be nice. Somx we need to do somn for ourselves that’s just totally out of our ordinaire for us, makes us feel good ❤

    • Absolutely. I got my first tattoo February 2014 and have loved it ever since. One day I just had the urge and followed my heart. That one is on my upper back, but there is another I’d really like to get done soon on my right hand.
